Want to immigrate to Canada from Hong Kong?

The number of immigrants coming to Canada has been on the rise over the past few years. From 2015 to 2019, Canada’s immigration numbers rose by 26%. It offers the most supporting social security benefits program for immigrants and their families. Two pathways to permanent residence for eligible Hong Kong residents:

  • Start-up Visa Program
  • Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

If granted permanent residency, a person is given the right to live and work anywhere in Canada, plus access to Canadian universal healthcare and social services.

Canadian Visa Information

Start-up Visa Program
  • You must have a qualifying business in which, at the time of receiving your permanent residency, you provide active and ongoing management of this business from within Canada.
  • An essential part of the operations of the business happens in Canada, and it is incorporated in Canada.
  • You must get a letter of support from a designated organization (a business group that has been approved to invest in or support possible start-ups).
  • You need to give proof that you have the money to support yourself and your dependants after you arrive in Canada. You can’t borrow this money from another person.
  • You must meet the minimum level of the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in either English or French in all of these four areas; speaking, reading, listening, and writing.

Note:

  • The Province of Quebec is in charge of its own business immigration program.
  • The amount you need depends on the size of your family. In 2021, the fee start at CAD12,960 for 1 person. The fees change annually.
Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot
  • For skilled foreign workers who want to work and live in one of the participating communities. Each community has additional requirements for applicants.
  • A Canadian secondary school (high school) diploma, or a Canadian post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree, or, an educational credential assessment (ECA) report, from a designated organization or professional body, showing that you completed a foreign credential that’s equal to a Canadian secondary school (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree (your ECA report must be less than 5 years old on the date of your application).
  • You must prove you have enough money to support yourself, and any family members you may have, even if they’re not coming to Canada with you.
  • You must plan to live in the chosen participating community.
  • If you can meet the requirements above, you must find eligible job in the participating community.
  • Once you have job offer, submit your application for recommendation to the community.
  • If a community recommends you, you can apply for permanent residence.
